Chicago – Japanese Penthouse Pet, adult star, cancer ambassador, and YouTube sensation Marica Hase was one of three female Asian adult performers profiled by the Daily Beast in a piece looking at racism and stereotyping.
“Asian Porn Stars Open Up About Adult-Industry Racism and Stereotyping” by former adult performer and mainstream writer Aurora Snow looks at how Asian women who perform in adult are treated and what the future holds. The article stems from the massage parlor shootings in Atlanta, where Asian women were targeted and lost their lives. One of the figures reported in the piece is searching “Asian massage” on Pornhub and finding over 6k videos with tens of millions of views.
Marica’s views of being Asian and working in adult counter what some people assume. She feels that being Asian has helped get her work and other opportunities. She hasn’t experienced stigmatization in the industry and tells a story about shooting a box cover with other models and being chosen for center stage.
